Importance of Internal Bearing Clearance
Internal Bearing Clearance is defined as the total distance either the inner or outer ring can be moved when the other ring is fixed. If it moves in the radial direction it is called radial clearance and if it moves in the axial direction it is called axial clearance. Bearing performance depends on internal clearance. Inappropriate clearance can result in short rolling fatigue life and generation of heat, noise and vibration. In measuring internal clearance, a specified load is generally applied in order to obtain stable measurement values. Selection of Internal Bearing Clearance The term ‘ residual clearance ’ is defined as the original clearance decreased owing to the expansion and contraction of a raceaway when the bearing is mounted on the shaft and housing.
